Regulations & Compliance

Antimony substances have known intrinsic toxicological properties which require a certain number of conditions to be respected in order to ensure safe use.

Some of these conditions are implemented through dedicated legislation, to which producers, distributors and users are expected to demonstrate compliance. Some legislations are historic (environmental toxicity has been assumed for antimony often because of its ‘(heavy) metal’ status but recently antimony has been demonstrated to lack environmental toxicity) while others are under development (regular toxicological studies yield new evidence requiring assessment and opinion/decision-making by various authoritative bodies).

The most important requirements applicable to antimony today are described here below. Information about more specific local regulatory requirements is available to i2a Members.
